Dr. Bellavia is a product of the New York City school system and was graduated from\ New York University's Washington Square College with a BA degree. He immediately entered the University of Rome Medical School and did his postgraduate training in medicine at the Hackensack University Medical Center. After serving in the United States Army Medical Corp in Texas and Virginia reaching the rank of Major while being the Chief of Professional Services at Kenner Army Hospital, he returned to the Attending Staff at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Dr. Bellavia is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Correctional Medicine, is a Senior Attending in the Department of Family Practice; an Attending in the Department of Medicine, and an Associate Professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He served on many committees of the Bergen County Medical Society and the Medical Society of New Jersey. He has been an advisor to both the state and federal governments on health care issues and policy. At the present time he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Academy of Family Practice and its Foundation, and a member of the Bergen County Medical Society of New Jersey; the American Medical Association; The American Academy of Family Practice, as well as many other organizations with philanthropic missions.

He commenced his practice of Family Medicine in Wood-Ridge and subsequently created Heights Medical Associates in Hasbrouck Heights where he presently sees patients on a daily basis.
